Law360, San Diego (May 14, 2012, 8:07 PM ET) -- With California facing a $15.7 billion deficit, Gov. Jerry Brown released a revised state budget Monday that called for $8.3 billion in government cuts, including slashing funds to the court system by 20 percent, which judicial leaders claim would hurt access to the courts.
The revised budget proposes $544 million in general fund reductions to the judicial branch in 2012-2013. It would restructure trial court funding by cutting $300 million on a one-time basis and require each trial court to use their available reserve.
