Attys, Jurors Can't Be Facebook Friends, NYC Bar Says

Law360, New York (June 04, 2012, 10:21 PM ET) -- The New York City Bar Association on Monday said attorneys may research potential or sitting jurors via social media websites like Facebook, but may not make any communication with them under the state’s rules of professional conduct.

In an ethics opinion, the NYCBA said even if an attorney unintentionally makes contact with a juror through a social networking site, that may qualify as a violation of the code.
