Law360, Dallas (September 27, 2012, 4:39 PM ET) -- Chief Judge Edith Jones will step down early from her leadership role on the Fifth Circuit on Oct. 1 but will remain an active judge, a clerk confirmed Thursday.
Judge Carl E. Stewart, a 1994 appointee of Bill Clinton, is the next judge in line to take over the leadership role, based on his seniority and age. His office said Thursday it could not comment on whether he would take the position.
