WolfBlock, Akerman Abandon Plans To Merge

Law360, New York (September 04, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- Citing client conflicts and an economic downturn, WolfBlock LLP and Akerman Senterfitt have ended talks of a potential merger.

Akerman, a Miami-based firm of about 500 lawyers, said Thursday its board of directors had decided not to go through with a combination with the Philadelphia-based firm of 317 lawyers.

"Certain client conflict issues became an impediment to moving forward and were not resolved. Under the circumstances, we determined that it is not in our best interests to pursue the transaction,” Akerman chairman Andrew M. Smulian said....
