EU Report Announces Drugmaker Probes Over Deals

Law360, New York (July 08, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- Citing concerns over settlements between generic- and brand-name drug companies that may slow the arrival of cheaper medicines on the market, the European Commission announced formal investigations of a French drugmaker and several generics makers Wednesday and warned that more inquiries would likely follow.

But in releasing its final report on competition in the pharmaceutical sector, the commission conceded that the delay in generic drugs entering the market could stem from "shortcomings in the regulatory framework" in addition to the behavior of the drugmakers themselves....
