German Courts Weigh In On Edwards' Patent Fight

Law360, New York (January 21, 2010, 6:31 PM ET) -- A German court has upheld the validity of Edwards Lifesciences Corp.’s transcatheter valve patent in a dispute with a Medtronic Inc. unit, but a German appellate court in a related case has indicated that the unit’s devices may not infringe the patent, a Medtronic spokesman said Thursday.

Edwards said Tuesday that a ruling by the Federal Patent Court in Munich affirmed that the heart valve device maker’s so-called Andersen patent was valid and dismissed CoreValve Inc.’s invalidity claims on all grounds.
