D.C. Court Reinstates PBM Disclosure Laws

Law360, New York (March 08, 2007, 12:00 AM ET) -- The pharmacy benefits management (PBM) industry will have to disclose all payments from drug companies after losing a legal challenge to laws imposed by a Washington, D.C. district court.

PBMs are the middlemen of prescription drug programs. They are responsible for processing and paying prescription drug claims, contacting pharmacies and, because they represent a large pool of purchasers, negotiating discounts with drug manufacturers for their clients.
