Abbott Loses Blood Test Patent Row With Epocal

Law360, New York (May 11, 2012, 1:54 PM ET) -- An Alabama federal jury has shot down Abbott Point of Care Inc.'s allegations of patent infringement and contract interference over a bedside blood testing system developed by rival Epocal Inc., that company's attorneys said Friday.

Goodwin Procter LLP, which represents Epocal, released a statement saying the jury on Thursday found against Abbott's claims that Epocal infringed three patents for point-of-care blood tests, systems that allow a physician to complete diagnostic blood work at a patient's bedside rather than wait for a lab to process results....
