CBO Says FDA User Fee Bill Would Save $358M Over 10 Years

Law360, New York (May 15, 2012, 7:02 PM ET) -- The Congressional Budget Office said Friday that a Senate bill to reauthorize the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s user fee programs would reduce direct government spending by $358 million from 2013 to 2022 and could lower drug costs.

The renewed user fees will also bring in $5 million in revenue during that period, the CBO said. Additionally, provisions contained in the bill that would affect when lower-priced drugs become available are also likely to reduce costs, assuming it is approved by the end of the fiscal...
