Pharmacy Group Recommends Narrow ACA Drug Coverage

Law360, New York (July 19, 2012, 1:42 PM ET) -- The trade group representing the nation’s top pharmacy benefit managers on Wednesday warned the federal government against including too many expensive drugs in prescription coverage on new insurance exchanges, setting up a battle with patient advocates seeking greater protections.

The Pharmaceutical Care Management Association, whose members include CVS Caremark Corp. and Express Scripts Inc., said that creating “protected classes” of medicines that individual and small group plans must cover would bruise the bottom lines of employers and produce an improper windfall for drugmakers.
