Dr. Reddy’s Launches Allegra Generic

Law360, New York (April 17, 2006, 12:00 AM ET) -- India's Dr. Reddy's Laboratories has said it will begin marketing a generic version of the blockbuster allergy drug Allegra in the United States, disregarding a pending patent infringement lawsuit brought by the drug’s developer, Sanofi-Aventis SA.

Although rival generic drug makers Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. began marketing their versions in 2005, demand for the drug appears high enough for an at-risk launch, with Allegra generating about $1 billion in revenue last year.
