Wyeth Hits Another Generics Maker Over Effexor XR

Law360, New York (January 09, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- In its latest move to protect three patents for Effexor XR, Wyeth has hit Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd. over Torrent's bid to produce a generic version of the popular antidepressant.

The complaint, filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, accuses Torrent Pharmaceuticals, headquartered in India, and its Kalamazoo, Mich.-based subsidiary, Torrent Inc., of working together to file an abbreviated new drug application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in order to sell an extended-release form of venlafaxine hydrochloride.
