Law360, New York (August 18, 2009, 3:28 PM ET) -- Kanye West has won a round in a copyright infringement suit filed by a songwriter claiming the rapper's 2007 Grammy award-winning single “Good Life” illegally sampled elements of a song he wrote years earlier.
Judge Peter Messite of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland on Friday granted partial summary judgment to West's record labels Island Def Jam Music Group and Universal Music Group, finding that there was not “substantial similarity” between West’s song and plaintiff Dayna Stagg’s song “Volume of the Good Life.”...
