Casino Servers Denied Shifts Due To Sex Bias, Suit Says

Law360, New York (September 19, 2012, 7:29 PM ET) -- Several female cocktail servers at The Golden Nugget Atlantic City in New Jersey have sued the casino for sex discrimination, claiming they were unfairly prohibited from working lucrative shifts at “party pits” targeting upscale, younger male clientele.

The casino allegedly made staffing decisions for those areas based on appearance standards rooted in feminine stereotypes, according to the complaint, which was removed to New Jersey federal court on Sept. 12. Indeed, the uniform for party pit servers “was little more than a see-through negligee,” the suit says....
