New State Laws May Authorize More Than Just Fantasy Sports

Law360, New York (April 18, 2016, 3:31 PM EDT) -- Looking back on the last few months of 2015 and the first couple of months of 2016 for the burgeoning daily fantasy sports industry, it is no wonder that numerous state legislatures are currently considering legislation dealing with DFS. As of last month, over 25 states had passed or proposed legislation pertaining to DFS. Kansas enacted a law in 2015 exempting DFS from its state gambling laws and, in early 2016, Virginia and Indiana enacted laws exempting DFS from the respective states' gambling laws and establishing a regulatory regime for DFS. The Virginia legislation was based specifically on a model bill (the "Fantasy Contests Act") drafted and supported by the Fantasy Sports Trade Association....
