ProMedica's Hospital Buy Hurts Competition, FTC Says

Law360, New York (January 06, 2011, 6:11 PM ET) -- The Federal Trade Commission challenged ProMedica Health System Inc.'s completed acquisition of an Ohio community hospital Thursday, saying the combination threatened competition for emergency medical and obstetrics services in the state.

The FTC launched an administrative complaint in a bid to unwind the deal. The agency also said it would file a separate suit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio on Friday, along with Ohio's attorney general, seeking to keep St. Luke's Hospital separate from ProMedica while the case goes forward....
