Law360, New York (April 05, 2012, 7:09 PM ET) -- FedEx Corp. said Thursday it will acquire Polish shipper Opek SpZOO, punching back at rival United Parcel Service Inc., which last month bought Dutch carrier TNT Express NV in a $6.8 billion power play for European dominance.
FedEx touted the acquisition as “the latest step in its strategy for growth in Europe.” It is likely a small one compared to the proposed UPS-TNT tie-up. The company did not release the purchase price, but Opek has about $70 million in annual sales, according to a statement....
