Italy's Antitrust Agency Conditionally OKs Unipol, FonSai Deal

Law360, New York (June 20, 2012, 4:56 PM ET) -- The Italian antitrust watchdog said on Wednesday it has given the go-ahead to insurer Unipol Gruppo Finanziario SpA's bid to buy rival Fondiaria-Sai SpA, provided that the companies comply with certain conditions, such as reducing their affiliation with investment bank Mediobanca SpA.

The Autorita Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato, also known as the Antitrust Authority, ruled that the integration between the two companies can proceed coupled with some transfer of assets along with the loosening of ties to Mediobanca and banking organization Unicredit SpA....
