FTC Says Ardagh 'Detached From Reality' In Merger Fight

Law360, New York (October 25, 2013, 1:37 PM ET) -- The Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday continued its quest to halt a $1.7 billion bid by Ardagh Group SA for the North American packaging unit of France's Saint-Gobain SA, telling a D.C. federal judge that the companies' defense of the deal indicated a detachment from reality.

In a partially redacted filing to the court, the FTC took broad swipes at Ardagh and Saint-Gobain's claims that the deal will not threaten the competitive balance in the market for beer and distilled liquor glass containers.
