States Cracking Down On Pregnancy Discrimination

Law360, New York (July 15, 2014, 11:15 AM EDT) -- On May 28, 2014, the Illinois legislature passed HB 8, which imposes reasonable accommodation requirements for female employees affected by pregnancy, childbirth or medical or common conditions related to pregnancy and childbirth. The bill is the latest in a flurry of state and local legislation requiring employers to provide accommodations for pregnant employees and paid family leave for employees affected by pregnancy. To minimize employment law risk, employers should add to their summer to-do list to review and revise their policies and practices related to the treatment of pregnant women in the workplace to ensure compliance with these developing obligations across the U.S....
