Law360, New York (October 15, 2009, 5:20 PM ET) -- Exxon Mobil Corp. is off the hook for punitive damages in a lawsuit brought by the city of New York over contamination of Queens' groundwater by gasoline additive methyl tertiary-butyl ether.
Judge Shira Scheindlin of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York ruled Wednesday that the city had not presented sufficient evidence to allow the jury to rule on punitive damages, a city spokeswoman confirmed.
