Let Us Strike, Northwest Flight Attendants Say

Law360, New York (November 28, 2006, 12:00 AM ET) -- Flight attendants at bankrupt Northwest Airlines Corp. asked a federal appeals court on Tuesday to overturn a lower court’s preliminary injunction that bars them from striking while they are in contract mediation talks.

In oral arguments before a three-judge panel of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, an attorney for the Association of Flight Attendants said the workers should be able to strike because the airline terminated their labor contract.

“We are not compelled to not strike,” union lawyer Edward James Gilmartin argued.
