Law360, New York (October 19, 2010, 6:15 PM ET) -- A shareholder with the now-defunct law firm Jenkens & Gilchrist APC pled guilty on Tuesday to helping wealthy clients escape tax liability by generating billions of dollars in phony losses, as well as to using those strategies to improve his own bottom line.
Chicago-area attorney Erwin Mayer, 47, entered his plea before Judge William H. Pauley in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, saying he understood that his work largely involved developing and selling “prepackaged tax shelters.”
