NY Chief Judge Reduces Courts' Budget By $100M

Law360, New York (March 02, 2011, 6:00 PM ET) -- The head of the New York judiciary announced Wednesday that he had reduced the court system's $2.7 billion budget request for the 2011 fiscal year by $100 million at the request of Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman said the austerity measures would take the form of a hard freeze on hiring and layoffs of administrative and nonoperational personnel, if necessary.
