NY Enviro Agency Says State Should Lift Fracking Ban

Law360, New York (June 30, 2011, 7:31 PM ET) -- The New York Department of Environmental Conservation announced recommendations Thursday to lift the state's moratorium on hydraulic fracturing and allow for limited drilling.

The recommendations are part of a long-awaited report from the DEC on fracking to be released Friday. The department said the recommendations, if adopted, would allow natural gas drillers access to most of the Marcellus Shale, while blocking extraction near drinking water sources for New York City and Syracuse.
