Dementia On Track To Become Big Legal Malpractice Risk

Law360, New York (April 19, 2012, 7:04 PM ET) -- Alcoholism and depression, two scourges of the legal profession that generate malpractice risk, are being joined by a third — dementia and other cognitive impairments — as baby boom-generation lawyers grow old, experts said Thursday, predicting the problem will worsen.

Patricia Spataro, director of the New York State Bar Association's lawyer assistance program, told the American Bar Association's Legal Malpractice Conference that ancedotal evidence suggests more and more lawyers are calling in search of assistance with issues related to eroding mental ability.
