Former NY Sen. Monserrate Cops To Corruption Charges

Law360, New York (May 04, 2012, 6:11 PM ET) -- Former New York state Sen. Hiram Monserrate pled guilty Friday to using $109,000 of public money earmarked for community programs to help fund his failed 2006 bid for a Democratic nomination to the state legislature.

Monserrate, 44, admitted in New York federal court that he asked the city to allocate discretionary funds during his time as a city councilman in 2005 and 2006 to a group called Latino Initiative for Better Resources and Empowerment Inc.
