Law360, New York (May 14, 2012, 5:39 PM ET) -- Tired of what they call weak federal protections against unsolicited, cellphone-clogging text message advertisements, New York lawmakers on Monday advanced a bill that would let Empire State residents file suit against wanton mobile spammers.
The legislation, which was favorably reported by the state Senate's Corporations, Authorities and Commissions Committee, would give individuals or the state attorney general the power to sue for damages and attorneys' fees if they prove a text ad was sent in violation of the proposed law.
