Pa. Utility Accepts Higher Penalty For Deadly Gas Blast

Law360, Philadelphia (February 26, 2013, 3:10 PM ET) -- UGI Utilities Inc. agreed Monday to pay a $500,000 fine and speed up the replacement of its cast-iron pipelines in the aftermath of an eastern Pennsylvania gas explosion that killed five people two years ago.

The utility’s agreement to the penalty followed a unanimous ruling by the Pennsylvania Public Utilities Commission to increase an earlier $386,000 settlement between UGI and the regulator.
