Law360, New York (May 10, 2012, 3:19 PM ET) -- A federal judge on Wednesday certified a class of Arkansas drivers who accuse a Utah-based company of illegally purchasing personal information from the Arkansas Department of Motor Vehicles and reselling it to marketers and criminals.
According to the suit in Arkansas federal court, The Recall Center violated the Driver's Privacy Protection Act, which prevents companies from acquiring drivers' personal information from state databases without good reason. The plaintiffs claim the Utah company resold the information to third parties.
