Law360, New York (May 17, 2012, 5:06 PM ET) -- Law enforcement fought back at a House hearing Thursday against a Republican-backed geolocation privacy bill that would require a warrant to obtain cellphone location data, while civil libertarians argued that this heightened standard was necessary to protect users' privacy.
Reps. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, and Robert Goodlatte, R-Va., in June introduced H.R. 2168, the Geolocational Privacy and Surveillance Act, which would require government agencies in most instances to show probable cause to get a warrant for geolocation data.
