Law360, New York (June 29, 2012, 3:45 PM ET) -- Telecommunications and information services company Telstra Corp. Ltd. ran afoul of Australian law by inadvertently making the information of 734,000 customers available online last year, the Australian Privacy Commissioner said Friday.
Privacy Commissioner Timothy Pilgrim found that Telstra breached the Privacy Act of 1988 by failing to protect users' personal information, while the Australian Communications and Media Authority said the privacy snafu violated the Telecommunications Consumer Protections Code.
