Calif. Senate Drops Bill To Relax 'Made in USA' Label Rules

Law360, New York (July 06, 2012, 4:54 PM ET) -- A bill that would loosen the requirements for a product to be labeled "Made in the USA" failed to clear a California state senate committee Tuesday after consumer groups and personal injury attorneys blasted the proposed law.

The legislation, which stomped its way to a 68-0 vote by California's Assembly, aimed to match federal guidelines by scaling back California state laws prohibiting such labels on products containing any part not made in the U.S.
