Law Enforcement Requests For Cellphone Data Shoot Up

Law360, New York (July 09, 2012, 4:29 PM ET) -- Law enforcement agencies' use of cellphone data has risen despite privacy concerns, with more than 1.3 million requests made last year, according to information released Monday by major cellphone carriers.

Rep. Edward J. Markey, D-Mass., found that not only did federal, state and local law enforcement agencies make millions of requests for cellphone information in 2011, that number was increasing at a substantial rate.
