Law360, New York (June 20, 2012, 5:35 PM ET) -- Chevron Corp. has gained a foothold in the nascent South American offshore oil and gas sector with a deal for a 50 percent working interest in two blocks that Texas-based Kosmos Energy Ltd. is exploring off Suriname, the companies announced Wednesday.
The move gives Chevron Global Energy Inc., a unit of California-based Chevron, the operating rights to any commercial discoveries in the blocks, according to parallel statements issued by the companies.
