Brazil Urges Antitrust Fix For Nordic Paper Cos. Tie-Up

Law360, New York (April 26, 2013, 6:39 PM ET) -- Brazil's antitrust enforcer on Friday proposed requiring Finland's Ahlstrom Corp. to sell certain paper-making assets in order to join forces with Sweden's private equity-backed Munksjo AB, in the agency's first merger remedy agreement under the country's new competition law.

The general superintendence of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense, or CADE, urged the agency's tribunal to allow the transaction to go ahead on the condition that Ahlstrom divest its operations that produce abrasive bases and decorative paper used in indoor furniture.
