Plavix Label Revised To Include Prilosec Warning

Law360, New York (November 18, 2009, 5:16 PM ET) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced labeling changes to Plavix, manufactured by Sanofi-Aventis SA and Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., to reflect new data showing that simultaneously taking the heartburn treatment Prilosec can sharply reduce the effects of the blockbuster blood thinner.

Taking proton pump inhibitors, a type of drug that includes Prilosec and Nexium, can block the effectiveness of the anti-clotting drug clopidogrel, co-marketed as Plavix, the FDA warned on Tuesday.
