Law360, New York (February 09, 2010, 2:51 PM ET) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced Tuesday that it will set new safeguards for medical imaging machines to reduce the amount of unnecessary radiation to which patients are exposed through increasingly common diagnostic procedures.
The announcement is part of a multipronged initiative that will also set new requirements for physicians and try to better educate patients about radiation overexposure. The FDA will hold a public meeting March 30-31 to get input on proposed measures.
