FDA Sets Rule Limiting Tobacco Marketing Toward Kids

Law360, New York (March 18, 2010, 4:09 PM ET) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has finalized a broad set of restrictions on marketing cigarettes and smokeless tobacco to teens and children in a move FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg acknowledged on Thursday could spark legal opposition.

The new rule was a provision of the 2009 Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, which gave the FDA wide regulatory authority over the tobacco industry. It will go into effect June 22.
