FDA Mulls Pulling Abbott Diet Drug

Law360, New York (September 13, 2010, 6:02 PM ET) -- The fate of the controversial weight loss pill Meridia will be on the line Wednesday when U.S. Food and Drug Administration experts gather to discuss the results of a trial linking the drug to increased risks of heart attacks and strokes.

The Endocrinologic and Metabolic Drugs Advisory Committee will consider regulatory actions including the withdrawal of the drug from the U.S. market, according to materials published by the FDA in advance of the committee’s meeting in Maryland.
