Law360, New York (October 08, 2010, 2:35 PM ET) -- Federal regulators announced Friday that Abbott Laboratories had agreed to take diet drug Meridia off the market because of results from a clinical study showing it increases the risk of heart attack or stroke.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration asked Abbott to withdraw the obesity drug after reviewing data from a post-marketing study that found Meridia increased by 16 percent the risk of serious heart events, which also included the need for resuscitation after heart stoppage.
