Insurers Sue Toyota Over Gas Pedal Defect Suits

Law360, New York (January 04, 2011, 7:04 PM ET) -- American Automobile Insurance Co., Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. and five other insurers are suing Toyota Motor Corp. to recover money they paid out to cover crashes allegedly caused by a gas pedal defect that led to sudden acceleration.

The insurers seek to hold Toyota liable for the crash claims, alleging Toyota knew about the defect as early as 2002 but failed to warn the insurers about it and failed to incorporate reasonable safeguards against the problem, according to three complaints filed Thursday in the Superior Court of the State of California,...
