FAA Aims To Fine Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air Over Safety

Law360, New York (May 03, 2012, 7:51 PM ET) -- Alaska Airlines and its sister carrier Horizon Air are facing a total of more than $655,000 in potential civil penalties for allegedly not conducting required inspections and not properly documenting safety measures, the Federal Aviation Administration said Thursday.

The bulk of the FAA's proposed penalties — $445,125 — is against Alaska Air Group unit Horizon Air for operating a Bombardier Dash-8-400 aircraft on 45 flights, even though the plane was due for an inspection for cracked and corroded engine covering fittings, according to the regulator....
