Law360, New York (May 14, 2012, 6:26 PM ET) -- The Boeing Co. agreed to pay the city of Santa Monica, Calif., $39.5 million on Wednesday to settle claims that the company's predecessor had contributed to contamination in the city's second largest source of groundwater.
As the successor company to Douglas Aircraft Co., which allegedly contaminated the city's Olympic Well Field with industrial solvents using trichloroethylene and perchloroethylene, Boeing agreed to pay the settlement over the next 10 years to avoid a lawsuit over contamination caused at Douglas' manufacturing sites.
