Law360, New York (June 27, 2012, 9:08 PM ET) -- Johnson & Johnson unit DePuy Orthopaedics Inc. and other metal-on-metal hip implant makers argued to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration advisory panel on Wednesday that the companies' devices are too different to be regulated as a group.
Representatives from the manufacturers presented safety data to the 18-member panel during the first session of a highly anticipated two-day meeting about the devices. The panel is considering whether to issue new recommendations to physicians and patients about the implants and whether to change their labeling.
