Safety Regulators Step Up Jeep SUV Fire Risk Probe

Law360, New York (June 14, 2012, 2:50 PM ET) -- Traffic regulators have expanded an investigation into the risk of older Chrysler Group LLC Jeep SUVs catching fire in crashes to include about 5.1 vehicles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Thursday.

The stepped-up probe — now upgraded to an "engineering analysis" — builds on a preliminary investigation launched in 2010 and takes the company one step closer to a possible recall.
