Paul Floats Bill To Allow Dying Access To Unapproved Drugs

Law360, New York (August 06, 2012, 5:11 PM ET) -- Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, introduced a bill Thursday to allow terminally ill patients to treat their conditions with drugs and medical devices not yet approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, if their doctors determine they have no other options left.

The bill, H.R. 6342, titled Compassionate Freedom of Choice Act, would bar the FDA from preventing the importation, distribution or sale of unapproved drugs or devices, as long as the treatments are intended for use by a terminally ill patient. The patient’s doctor must...
