Law360, New York (August 13, 2012, 8:43 PM ET) -- Alterra America Insurance Co. on Monday sued the National Football League, saying that as an excess insurer, it has no duty to defend the league against dozens of former players’ lawsuits claiming they sustained neurological injuries during their careers.
The insurer filed the suit in New York state court, saying the NFL and NFL Properties LLC are seeking defense costs for 93 lawsuits brought by the former NFL players, the majority of which have been consolidated into multidistrict litigation launched earlier this year.
