Waxman Demands FDA Close Tobacco Reg Loopholes

Law360, Chicago (August 27, 2012, 8:19 PM ET) -- U.S. Rep. Henry A. Waxman, D-Calif., urged the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday to expand tobacco regulations he says are currently riddled with loopholes that tobacco companies exploit to avoid taxes and snap up young customers.

In a letter to FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg, the ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee wrote that industry players have manipulated their products to promote them as cigars and pipe tobacco, as opposed to regulated cigarettes and so-called "roll-your-own" tobacco, in order to duck higher...
