Calif. Agency Fines 14 Hospitals For Safety Breaches

Law360, New York (August 31, 2012, 6:30 PM ET) -- The California Department of Public Health on Thursday fined 14 hospitals a total of $825,000 for breaches that caused or could have caused serious injury or death to patients.

Under a state law that took effect in 2009, hospitals are fined $50,000 for their first offense, $75,000 for their second, and $100,000 for their third or subsequent offenses.
